Robinson College is set in several acres of attractive wooded gardens on the western edge of Cambridge City, only 2 miles from the M11 and yet just a few minutes walk from the city centre.
The youngest college in Cambridge, Robinson was designed and built to serve as a premier accommodation and conference venue in support of its academic vocation. Robinson offers the best of all worlds - comfort and efficiency alongside outstanding food, excellent service and a very convenient location.
The College bed and breakfast facility is awared 4 stars (Campus) by VisitBritain for its comfortable standard of accommodation, regularly updated and maintained.
History to the present day
Robinson College is the most recent addition to the 31 colleges which make up the University of Cambridge.
It owes its foundation to the generosity of Sir David Robinson who founded Robinson Rentals, one of the first television rental companies. He also owned a successful racing stable in Newmarket. His endowment is the largest single gift ever accepted by the University.
The College received the award for architectural excellence from the Royal Institute of British Architecture for building completed between 1976 and 1980.
Dining and drinking
Full English Breakfast is available in the Garden Restaurant from 8.00am until 9.00 am. This is a staff assisted self service meal. A full range of cooked items and cereals is available as well as continental breakfast. A self clearing system operates in the Garden Restaurant.
There are no facilities for evening meals in College.
Grounds and gardens
Robinson College Gardens are a fusion of several pre-existing gardens which are subtly linked while still retaining their distinctive character. We now benefit from the plantings of the 1890s - early 1900s and from the focal water garden developed during the building of the College. Thus, magnificent mature trees and wilder areas are juxtaposed with more formal sections to make a diverse garden full of historical and horticultural interest which has become a haven for wildlife and a pleasure to the eye.
Other facilities
Our bedrooms have either en-suite bathrooms (containing bath and shower, WC and basin), or are standard. Standard rooms share one bathroom between two or three bedrooms. All rooms are centrally heated and have radio alarm clocks. Beds are made with duvets in covers; bath and hand towels are provided as well as a complimentary vanity pack. We supply tea/coffee making tray with mineral water. Rooms are serviced daily. Towels will be changed daily, but the frequency of change of bedlinen depends on the length of stay. For example a four night stay would have no bedlinen change. Smoking is not permitted in any of our bedrooms. The residential areas are conveniently close to all facilities.
All of our bedrooms have wired internet access via our Ethernet network which guests may use for no additional charge. NB an Ethernet cable is required, available for sale at the Porters Lodge.
Laundrette facilities are available on site and irons and hairdryers can be borrowed from the Porters Lodge. There is a TV room available for guests.
Some rooms are situated on almost the ground floor (up three steps) and many bedrooms and most other areas of the College are accessible by lift. It might be helpful for guests to take into consideration that standard single rooms are located on upper floors which are accessible by between one and five flights of stairs. There are a limited number of rooms which are suitable for guests with access needs. Ideally those using wheelchairs should be accompanied by a companion. If you require further information on accessibility, please request this in the Additional Information section of the booking form or email support@universityrooms.co.uk.

Vegard Johnsen, July 2010: Everything was really good. The only thing I didn't like is the early check-out. I think 09:30 is too early and should be more like 11am, or at least an option to pay a bit extra to check out later.
Many thanks for a great stay,
Vegard
Mrs Jenny Andrews, July 2010: A clean, well equipped room with lovely views over the grounds. Porters were very helpful offering to get a taxi at very short notice. We had an excellent stay and will be back. A full English breakfast set us up for the day. The water and tea making facilities in the room were much appreciated as were the toiletries. All in all, it was very good value for money.
