Lucy Cavendish College is situated in its own beautiful gardens within a 10 minute walk of the city centre but away from the hustle and bustle. The College is easily accessible from all major routes and offers free car parking by arrangement to its guests whilst staying in College.

The College has a reputation for being very friendly and relaxed. The site consists of three beautiful houses, built near the beginning of the 20th century, and four modern buildings. This gives a combination of the intimate atmosphere of domestic Victorian architecture with the advantages of modern up-to-date buildings.

Our accommodation houses undergraduate and graduate students during term time. The rooms are therefore not equipped to four-star hotel standard but they are clean, very comfortable and situated in buildings surrounded by our lovely gardens. All rooms are centrally heated, beds are made with duvets in covers, bath and hand towels are provided as well as complimentary toiletries. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided either in the bedroom or a nearby kitchen which is equipped so that guests can prepare snacks if they wish.

Single ensuite bedrooms are newly refurbished with six bedrooms per floor, each room having a window seat, perfect for relaxing with a good book.

The Ground Floor Flat in Barrmore can either be booked as one bedroom with twin single beds or two bedrooms (one twin bedded room and one single room) suitable for three guests. If booking for 3 guests, please enter 2 guests in the Search field and make a note of the third guest in the Additional Information section of the booking form. If you wish to book the flat for three people, please enter the promotional code TRIPLE when booking.

History to the present day

Lucy Cavendish College was established in 1965 as a college at the University of Cambridge for women aged over 21. Women from a variety of backgrounds come to Lucy Cavendish where they can study at this world-class university at a time in their lives that suits them. New undergraduates who have been in numerous walks of life – such as former bankers, nurses and opera singers – study alongside graduate students of all ages who have studied at universities around the world.

The College is named after Lucy Cavendish, a leading Victorian campaigner for the reform of women’s education.

Food and Drinks

Continental breakfast is served either in Warburton Hall 8am - 9am or if booking numbers are low breakfast trays are left in the kitchen close to your bedroom.

There is a wide range of gastro pubs and restaurants within a 5 - 10 minute walk of College.

Grounds and gardens

We have 3 acres of beautiful, informal gardens linking all our buildings. There are a number of garden benches dotted around where our guests can relax and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of College.

, September 2010: Very nice service and friendly staff, thank you - I even got the Wi-Fi to work! The room and washing facilities were clean and good, but the air conditioning in the shower/WC was running all night - would it not be better/more economical/eco-friendlier, if a timer switch would turn it off a few minutes after use?
