St Catharine's is a vibrant and successful community of scholars who are delighted to welcome visitors to our city and College.
All the rooms we provide are used during term time by our undergraduate students. They are therefore not equipped to four star hotel standard (we do not for instance have trouser presses or TVs in rooms). We can however guarantee clean and comfortable rooms with tea/coffee making facilities; towels and toiletries; radio alarm clocks; and complimentary high speed internet access.
Please be aware that all our en-suite, twin and standard rooms are located in different parts of the building, therefore if you are booking more than one type of room, they are unlikely to be very close to each other. It would be helpful if you could specify which names would like which type of room if so.
History to the present day
St Catharine's, or "Catz" as the College is affectionately known, was founded in 1473, by Robert Woodlark. He chose a small site next to Kings and a close relationship with that college has been maintained. Originally a small college, it gradually acquired buildings around and was largely rebuilt in the 17th century, with work starting on the Main Court in 1673 and the Chapel being completed in 1704.
Copies of the College history and postcards are available from the Porter's Lodge.
Dining and drinking
A hearty traditional English breakfast is served in the College's Great Hall, from 7.45am-9am each day. On Saturday and Sunday breakfast is extended until 0930.
Guests are very welcome to use the fully licensed College bar.
Other facilities
Internet access is available via ethernet and cables are supplied in each bedroom at no additional charge. Extra cables can be obtained from the Porters' Lodge if required.
A television room is available for those visiting the College.

Customer feedback
We guarantee that all our feedback is genuine and can only be submitted by people who have booked through our websites.
Meryl Shephard, September 2010: We were all extremely impressed-especially with the friendly and helpful porter's lodge staff. St Catharine's was excellent value-particularly so in that other colleges do not provide breakfast. We all plan to use this service again-Well Done !
Elisabeth Marksteiner, September 2010: Fantastically central
Edward Walker, September 2010: Absolutely brilliant.I've already told a friend who will be booking with you very soon. Room, facilities and breakfast were all excellent. I really appreciated the breakfast on Sunday. Keep it up!
Caroline Derry, September 2010: A very comfortable room, thoughtfully prepared and equipped.
Rosemary Stevens, September 2010: Would certainly book again. Really good central location
Louise Robinson, September 2010: The staff were very hospitable and helpful. The room itself was a good size, clean and comfortable with fresh towels and toiletry goody bag laid out and tea/coffee provided. This was a basic room but the shower and toilet were right next door and there was a sink in the room. Choice of hot or cold buffet breakfast - or both! With a complementary copy video about St Catherine's College, excellent value for money and beautiful surroundings to stay in.
Patricia Mitchell, September 2010: Very pleasant visit, staff courteous and helpful at all times I interacted with them. Breakfast wasn't very warm and the tea from the urn not good!
I would be happy to return again and to recommend to friends.
Olivier Barsalou, September 2010: I really enjoyed my stay at St. Catharine's college. It's a charming place which offers great facilities (ex: computer room)
Morgana L P Asselin, September 2010: We are delighted to have had the opportunity to stay at Saint Catherine's College! Our rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet; staff who greeted us were very kind; and the breakfast hall and food were appealing. A memorable part of our brief visit to your lovely campus.
Ray Allport, September 2010: It was the first time we stayed at the college everything was as you would find in a comparable hotel. would certainley recomend.Ray & Anita.
brian okeeffe, September 2010: Greatly enriches your cambridge experience, by staying in the university added by great value for money.
Thomas W. Hill, August 2010: Like the free Internet access, as we used it for necessary info and updates.
Cristina Rodriguez Ravelo, August 2010: I had a lovely staying in your college. The situation is really wonderful and the porters were very helpful, I enjoyed the atmosphere of the college and had a very good time in Cambridge. Thanks a lot!
Stephanie Jahn, August 2010: We really enjoyed our visit, especially due to the friendly and helpful porter!
muriel CORBISIER, August 2010: Excellent location.Avery nice atmosphere .We would suggest having a hand towel in the shower/toilet room.
a wonderful stay .
Leigh Hatts, August 2010: Most enjoyable. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Mrs. B. Gleaves, August 2010: The room was too hot. We couldn't open the window at night because there was an air conditioning unit right outside making too much noise. However, apart from this, we loved our stay.
Pearl-Angelika LEE, August 2010: Very pleasant room and ambiance. For those who cre about these matters, it must be said that the rooms in the modern section are not really soundproof so that the sounds of cohabitation with your neighbors must be taken into stride. In the summer the ambiance is generally festive, so party sounds into the night may limit sleeping hours. Otherwise, the stay at St Catharine's was a pure pleasure.
LEVRAULT Patricia, August 2010: Just wanted to thank you dearly for the overall experience : We have had the best time ever in Cambridge and would love to come back some time soon ... Everything was simply perfect, from the wonderful general welcoming of the college staff, the magnificent breakfast and meals that we appreciated very much, and the perfect location of our rooms. We would certainly highly recommend it, and cannot wait to come back very soon.
With best regards, Patricia LEVRAULT, from France
Jonathan Best, August 2010: My standard single room turned out to be massive, with wood panelling, several good armchairs and a large desk, all overlooking the main quad. Very satisfactory. Good breakfast too. Booking a normal hotel would be a mistake, with this sort of thing on offer.
Colin Bailey, August 2010: Room was fine apart from the bed matress need replacing for a comfortable night sleep.
Sudaxshina Murdan, August 2010: Since we stayed for a whole week, it would have been helpful if we could have used the microwave in the kitchenettes on the floor. The kitchens were locked and the porters told us we were not allowed to use them.
Otherwise, we had a really good time. THe staff was really helpful and kind. We would certainly like to go back, and hope for the same room.
Clive Smith, August 2010: This was much better than staying in some generic B&B and at a reasonable price. As ever, with many multi occupancy buildings there were inevitable door bangs, especially as the doors are fitted with fire hazard shutting mechanisms making them REALLY bang. I did not have the best night's sleep ever but the standard of the room and the experience as a whole outweighed that. I picked St Catherine's as the check out time was slightly later than most of the other colleges, though at 10:00, still rather early.
Mrs B Glock, August 2010: Enjoyed our stay and the surroundings.
Dr. Christopher Terry, August 2010: It was a very pleasant stay. It is a pity Caths cannot find an affordable solution for the parking problem for people with cars as Downing, for example, can. Street rowdies outside Caths are a problem at nightbut that is a civic or policing responsibility. Cats itself is very good.
